When Uber launched it’s new logo the advertising and design world had a lot to say about it. Most of the conversations centered around critiques of the outcome. For me the more interesting question was why they decided to build a design team capable of this level of creative output in the first place.
To get a better understanding how an internal design team is structured at a startup I looked at our local tech scene here in the Twin Cities. I had the pleasure of seeing Leadpages grow from a few employees at COCO St Paul to one of Minnesota’s fastest growing startups. In this conversation Greg Howell and I discuss the difference between marketing and advertising, the role of design in today’s business environment and building a design forward culture at a startup.
