Building In Public / 2022 Goal Setting

I’m getting a head start on my 2022 goal setting using the hero on a mission vision-setting framework. — Side note, narrative goal setting has been a game-changer for me since I discovered it a few years ago.

In the past, I’ve added “wellness” as one of my top 3 annual goals. This year I’m starting with it as my primary goal that feeds everything else.

Figuring out where to start was a challenge. On one hand, I’ve gotten a lot of tangible value from prioritizing cardio with the Peloton Bike, both on my energy levels and my mental clarity. On the other hand, I’m not a fan of the Peloton workouts so I’m going to have to try something else.

Boxing seems promising and is at the top of my list. It seems like simple enough movements without a lot of extra equipment to purchase. I’m thinking I’d want to do a few training sessions with a personal trainer before setting up a heavy bag.

I’m a huge fan of the Build in Public movement and I’m starting from first principles, so I’ve added a secondary goal of creating an “Athletic Professional” program for myself and documenting it by the end of the year. — So far I know reading the book Spark by John J. Ratey, Headspace by Andy Puddicombe, and Hero on a Mission by Donald Miller will be making it into the program. 📚

The first thing I’m going to try to do is consistent strength training, specifically my upper body since I’ve got legs currently covered on the bike. My brother-in-law gave me a simple routine to start with. I’m currently setting the goal of working out 3 times a week…starting today! — Here we go. 💪🏾 🤙🏾
